It was 14 years ago, when Ishant Sharma, a Delhi-based young boy with long hair bowled his first ball in Test cricket to Shakib Al Hasan. 14 years down the line, the Delhi-based boy has now become a legend of this game and is currently playing his 100th Test match.

Over the years, Ishant Sharma has become a bowling mainstay for the Indian cricket team, more like a backbone for the bowling attack. Today, as India is playing against England on Day 1 of the Pink-Test match, Ishant Sharma became the only pacer after the legendary Kapil Dev to feature in 100 Tests for India. Besides this, Ishant is only the 4th Indian bowler to have achieved this feat.

Before the match began at the Motera Stadium (now name changed to Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium), Ishant Sharma received a cap from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The video of the same was shared by the official handle of BCCI:

Meanwhile, social media is flooded with amazing reactions to Ishant playing his 100th Test match. From former cricketers, experts and fans, everyone took to their Twitter to hail the brilliance of India’s legendary bowler. Among many, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag also took to his Twitter and wrote a heartfelt tweet for Ishant Sharma.

Virender Sehwag, who is known for his hilarious sense of humor penned the tweet in his trademark style. In his tweet, he admired the journey of Ishant with the Indian cricket team and also hailed the fact that he is only the fourth Indian bowler to have achieved the milestone. He wrote:

“What a journey it has been for #IshantSharma . That he is only the 4th Indian bowler ever and only the second Indian fast-bowler to play 100 Test’s speaks a lot about his hardwork and toil. Well done lambu !”
