What if the characters of Lagaan were to be portrayed by actual cricketers?

Lagaan is one of the best movies in the history of Bollywood. The 2001 blockbuster was about a small village that gained its independence from the Britishers by defeating them in a cricket match. Aamir Khan, who played the character of Bhuvan, inspired the entire village to play a game of cricket and  drive the Britishers out of their village after beating.

Now, just imagine if the characters in Lagaan were played by our Indian cricketers. Here is what The Cricket Lounge’s Vaibhav Sharma thinks:

Bhuvan- Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Just like Bhuvan, MS Dhoni is very brave and he leads from the front. Dhoni backs his boys and gives them enough opportunities to showcase their talent. Dhoni is also a brilliant finisher with the bat. Just imagine MS Dhoni finishing off the Lagaan match with a helicopter shot!

Deva- Virat Kohli

Aggressive batsmen who believe in playing their cricket with aggression. Punjabis to the core and it is very difficult to keep them calm, specially while playing cricket.

What if the characters of Lagaan were to be portrayed by actual cricketers?

Bagha- Ashish Nehra

This selection is purely based on Ashish Nehra’s fielding skills. Just like Bagha, Nehra finds it very difficult to catch the ball.

Ishwar Kaka- Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar, one of the best batsmen in the history of Test cricket, is the best man to play Ishawar Chacha. This will also give this generation a chance to see the original ‘Little Master’ batting in the middle.

Kachra- Amit Mishra

There are two reasons behind this selection: leg spin and in my opinion, Mishra looks a bit like Kachra of Lagaan.

What if the characters of Lagaan were to be portrayed by actual cricketers?

Goli- Mohammad Shami

Speed guns! Mohammad Shami is very fast, but let’s hope he isn’t as cranky as Goli!

What if the characters of Lagaan were to be portrayed by actual cricketers?

Bhura- Suresh Raina

Both are short, slim and brilliant catchers!

What if the characters of Lagaan were to be portrayed by actual cricketers?

Arjan- Shikhar Dhawan

Be it with their willow or their words, these men are always on fire. And watch-out for that epic moustache!

What if the characters of Lagaan were to be portrayed by actual cricketers?

Ismail- Ajinkya Rahane

Both are very reliable middle-order batsmen.

What if the characters of Lagaan were to be portrayed by actual cricketers?

Guran- Navjot Singh Sidhu

For these two gentlemen, cricket is temporary and shayari permanent. *Thoko taali*

What if the characters of Lagaan were to be portrayed by actual cricketers?

Lakha- S Sreesanth

Do I need to give any explanation for this one?

What if the characters of Lagaan were to be portrayed by actual cricketers?

Ram Singh- Harsha Bhogle

You all will agree that Harsha Bhogle is the best man to play this character!
