Indian skipper Virat Kohli is one of the most talented cricketers around the world. His consistent performances and determination for the game had made him the best batsman in the world. Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni played a massive part in shaping the career of Virat Kohli in international cricket.
Recently, West Indian keeper Denesh Ramdin revealed how MS Dhoni helped Virat Kohli in regaining his form back with the bat when he was facing the worst phase.
Denesh Ramdin recalled the time when in 2014 the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli was undergoing a lean patch after coming off the England tour. Ramdin stated that team India was in for ODI series when in the first game when Virat Kohli got our cheaply while batting at number 3 position.
However, MS Dhoni, who was the skipper at that time, didn’t leave him out and instead pushed him to number four for the next match, where he scored 62 runs that began the road to become one of the most successful players in the world. He said:
“I remember one instance when Virat (Kohli) wasn’t getting any runs, he just came off an England series. We were there for a one-day series and we got Virat out once or two cheaply. He (Dhoni) didn’t drop him. He said look, rather than bat at number three, I’m going to put you at four or five. In one game, he (Kohli) came in at number four or five and scored a century (half century, actually) and that was it. He was back to his normal self,”
Ramdin further went on to say that understanding players were crucial instead of omitting them when struggling. He also went on to claim that Virat Kohli will go on to become one of the best batsmen in the world and credited MS Dhoni for his overall development. He said:
“Sometimes, understanding your players, not discarding them is important. Other teams might have gotten rid of their players, he still backed Virat. I think he’s (Kohli) going to be one of the best batsmen who’s ever played the game. His passion as well for the game and you have to give Dhoni a lot of credit,”
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, both the cricketers will be seen leading their respective teams Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League in UAE, which will kickstart from September 19th.
