When Sourav Ganguly Wore Suresh Raina’s Jersey: On Sunday, during the second ODI between India and West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval, the fans noticed quite an amusing and confusing thing: when Deepak Hooda was seen wearing the Prasidh Krishna’s jersey.
The pacer was not playing the match and after a little while, Hooda then went out to tape the name of Krishna but the number of the jersey, 24, was visible and it didn’t take long to figure out that Hooda was indeed wearing the seamer’s t-shirt.

With this sight of Hooda, fans also dug out some other instances of Indian players wearing their teammates’ jersey.
A renowned Twitter account, @CricCrazyJohns, was quick to recall that one former India skipper Sourav Ganguly had come out to bat in the t-shirt of Suresh Raina. in one of the games from perhaps 2005 when Raina was new to the team. Now, Raina and Ganguly have featured together in only 2 ODI matches – one in 2005 and other in 2007 – so it’s very much possible that Raina wasn’t playing in that game making it not an issue for Ganguly to use his jersey.

But, whether Ganguly donning Raina’s t-shirt of Hooda Krishna’s, the question befuddling the fans remains: Why? Why did a player need to wear their teammates’ jersey? Perhaps we will never know.
Coming back to Hooda, some fans were even prompt to point out that Hooda’s former team Baroda’s captain Krunal Pandya – with whom he had a feud last year but then both played together at Lucknow Super Giants – wore the number 24 when he played for India.

Soon, it was cleared out by some netizens that Hooda was in fact wearing pacer Prasidh Krishna’s jersey. Krishna was dropped for this encounter; fans kept wondering why really was Hooda wearing the seamer’s jersey, which he then taped, and not his own.

Meanwhile, coming to what happened on the field: Hooda gave India their first wicket, breaking the 65-run opening stand in 9 overs between Shai Hope and Kyle Mayers.
With still one over to go in the batting powerplay, Shikhar Dhawan then made an audacious move – or perhaps he just had to – by introducing part-time off-spinner Deepak Hooda in the attack to target left-handed Mayers.
To Dhawan’s and Hooda’s and India’s delight, the off-spinner struck on his very first ball as Mayers got out as a soft dismissal – chipping back a simple catch to Hooda who gave his side the breakthrough.
But, Hope continued further and notched up his 13th ODI ton and Nicholas Pooran’s blitz of 74 helped West Indies put up a total of 311.
