The Indian Premier League is one of the most successful and followed tournaments around the world. Cricketers around the world look forward to participating in the IPL as not just it gives a perfect platform for the youngster to show their talent to the world but also gives them the opportunity to earn huge amounts. However, ever wondered which cricketer has earned the most amount in this cash-rich tournament?

As per the report by Inside Sports Money Ball, legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni became the highest-paid player in the IPL history.

According to the reports, MS Dhoni continued to earn the same amount in the 2009 and 2010 editions of the IPL that he earned in IPL 2008, i.e, INR 6 crores. He had an increase in salary from IPL 2011 to 2013, where he earned INR 8.2 crore every year.

In 2014, the BCCI decided to raise the first-choice retention fees to INR 12.5 crores. Hence, he earned INR 12.5 crore in IPL 2014 and 2015. In the following two years, Dhoni played for the Rising Pune Supergiant, where he earned the same amount.

Later ahead of the IPL 2018, the BCCI announced to increase the first-choice retention price to Rs. 15 crores. Dhoni made a comeback with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2018 and since then there has been no turning back for the CSK skipper. He earned a total of INR 45 crore in the past three seasons.

Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma is at the second spot on the list. He earned INR 3 crores every year during his time at Deccan Chargers from the period 2008 to 2010. From 2011 to 2013, Rohit earned INR 9.2 crore every year.

As he is the skipper of Mumbai Indians, he became the first-choice retention player in IPL 2014 and hence he earned INR 12.5 crore. Following that, he has been matching Dhoni’s amount every year since then and has earned a total of INR 131 crores.

Following MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s skipper Virat Kohli comes next with an income of over INR 126 crores.

However, the reason behind the same now is the amount he earned in the first three seasons. Back in 2008, Virat was uncapped and picked at INR 12 lakhs only. He went on to receive the same amount in IPL 2009 and 2010.

In IPL 2018, Virat shattered all past records and earned a cheque of INR 17 crore plus INR 2 crore more than the highest retention price. Since then, he has earned INR 51 crore in the last past three seasons.
