Indian captain Rohit Sharma was impressed with the young debutant Ishan Kishan, who displayed an aggressive approach to batting. Kishan registered his maiden Test half-century in just 32 balls during the second innings of the Final Test match in Trinidad.

He walked out to bat at number 4 ahead of an experienced Virat Kohli. Kishan repaid the faith of the team with a whirlwind knock en route to a maiden half-century. He played an unbeaten knock of 52 off 34, that helped team India set up a target of 365 runs against the home team. Earlier in the first innings, he scored 25 runs which included four boundaries.

Rohit Sharma Praised Ishan For His Terrific Knock

Impressed with the aggressive batting prowess of Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma heaped praise on him for filling Rishabh Pant’s absence in the team. Speaking on the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma said:

“You need guys like Ishan. We wanted quick runs, we promoted him, he wasn’t afraid. He was the first one to put his hand up,”

He added: “In Test matches, you need guys who stabilise the innings like what Virat did, he played superbly. You need the mixture of everything. We have depth, we have got variety. We are in the right place. It’s about getting the job done,”

With Rishabh Pant missing out from the action, several experts and fans believe that Kishan is the right choice as a keeper-batter for the team, especially in the longest format of the game.

Ishan Kishan Praised Rohit For Creating A Comfortable Environment

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan also praised his captain for not cluttering his mind and showing faith in his gameplan. He said Rohit follows up with every player to create a comfortable environment. He said:

“He’s (Rohit) a very experienced captain, knows how to deal with youngsters. I have seen him in IPL, ODIs and T20s how he follows up with every player, tries to keep them in comfort zone so they don’t feel any pressure,”

He added: “When I was heading in, he asked me to trust my own game, plan and not listen to anyone. So it’s a plus point for a youngster to stay in the zone that captain and coaches have faith in me,”

Further, speaking on batting ahead of Virat Kohli, Kishan said:

“The plan was to counter the left-arm spinners trying to bowl to right-handers by pitching on the patches and could’ve been difficult to score runs for them,”

He added: “We didn’t plan to bat for long, we already had a good lead, wanted to set a target and get them back on the pitch so as to get them all out as quickly as possible. So the plan behind sending me ahead was to play positively, score as many runs as possible in 10 overs,”
