The Most Controversial Cricket News Of The Week: Cricket Australia announced the winners of 2019 a few days ago and the list featured a lot of usual suspects like Ellyse Perry, Pat Cummins, Marnus Labuschagne, Aaron Finch among others the award winner who raised a lot of eyebrows was David Warner. The left-handed Aussie opener deservedly won the award for the best Australian T20I player of the year, however, he also won the prestigious Allan Border Medal which is awarded to the best Australian cricketer of the year, and this is our ‘the most controversial cricket news’ of the week.

It is noteworthy that at the start of 2019, David Warner was banned by Cricket Australia. He did not play a single international match until the World Cup match against Afghanistan in June 2019. He then played all the World Cup games for Australia which was followed by Ashes 2019.

He performed decently in the mega event as he scored an unbeaten 89 against Afghanistan upon his return. He then scored 56 versus India before registering centuries against Pakistan, South Africa, and Bangladesh.

Talking about his numbers in T20I cricket during 2019, Warner absolutely decimated Sri Lanka in the 3-match T20I series and he had a good aggregate in the series versus Pakistan as well. But, the reason why this news has to be the most controversial one of this week is that the left-handed opener failed to perform when it mattered the most.

It would have been fine had he not scored three centuries in the league stage of the World Cup because, in the semifinal match against England, he got out for a score of 9. In Ashes 2019, Warner struggled to tackle the English pacers as he had scores of 2,8,3,5,61,0,0,0,5 and 11 in the series.

This is the main reason why the fans feel Warner did not deserve the Allan Border medal. He scored mountains of runs against the weaker bowling attacks but when he faced the strongest pace bowling attack of the world right now, the English bowling attack, Warner was not at his best.
