Find Out Why The BCCI Has Fined Jos Buttler In IPL 2023

After getting run out for a duck against KKR, Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler got a disciplinary penalty and he was fined 10 percent of his match fees by the IPL and the BCCI.

The England captain was fined 10 percent of match fees for breaching the code of conduct on Thursday at Eden Gardens.

In the chase of 150 runs vs Kolkata Knight Riders , Jos Buttler got run out for a three-ball duck after a mix-up with opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jos Buttler tapped the ball on the offside and took ahead a couple of steps. By that time, though, Jaiswal was halfway down the pitch.

Jos Buttler sacrificed his wicket for Jaiswal, who was looking in good touch and had smoked 26 runs off the first over itself.

While going toward the dressing room, Jos Buttler smashed the boundary cushion hardly and one of the cushions even went flying to the camera.

Penalizing the RR opener, the IPL said in a released statement, “Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler has been fined 10 Percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on May 11.

“Mr. Buttler admitted to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.”

Level 1 offence in the IPL Code of Conduct is related to various things: to abuse of cricket equipment or clothing or ground fixtures and fittings; showing dissent at an umpire’s decision by action or verbal abuse; using language that is obscene, offensive or insulting and/or the making of an obscene gesture and engaging in excessive appealing or point or gesture towards the pavilion/dressing room sheds in an aggressive manner, or to behave aggressively or derisively towards either batter, upon the dismissal of a batter.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Jos Buttler’s sacrifice didn’t go in vain as Jaiswal blasted a 13-ball fifty – the fastest fifty in the IPL history, breaking KL Rahul’s record of 14 deliveries – and ended up with 98* off 47 balls, taking RR to over the finishing line in only 13.1 overs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, while receiving the Player of the Match award, said: “This is always in my mind, to go out there and play well. It was a nice feeling today. It is not like everything I wanted happens, I prepare well and I trust in myself. I know the results will come. The winning shot was a great feeling, I wanted to finish the game and winning the game has been my motto.

“I’m blessed and grateful, I’m trying my best. (On whether he feels he missed out on a century) I think the net run rate was the only thing in our mind, me and Sanju were only talking about finishing the game quickly. (On the Buttler run out) I think it happens in the game, it gives me responsibility to do even better. And Sanju bhai came and said to keep playing my game, and not think about that run out. I’m just grateful for a tournament like the IPL where youngsters like me can come and perform. This has been a great platform for players like me to fulfill my dreams.”
