Speculating is one thing while blaming someone for not being able to play a Test series is a different gravy altogether. A player who has risked so much, who has bared his heart out in the open, who has been rock solid in terms of keeping the Indian batting alive was questioned for a leave from the Test series.
And now that Ravichandran Ashwin has requested leave from the remainder of the third Test match, a few fans had the audacity of questioning his integrity to the side? Is it for real? The man who just completed 500 wickets in Test cricket today, you think that it is alright to question his resolve and commitment to the team?
In fact, a few said that Ravichandran Ashwin only plays for milestones. Really? The man who was dejected just because he didn’t feature in the playing XI of the WTC final, the man who loves to play, the man who would possibly his eight lives to try and don the Indian jersey in the ninth life again, you question the integrity of that man?
Dear fans, please understand that for a cricketer, like the way playing cricket is important, similarly taking care of one’s family is equally important. Like the way he is proud to don his nation’s jersey, similarly, he also loves to be with his family and have their back whenever they need him.
Just because someone wants to take care of his or her family, that is no crime at all. That is not leaving one’s country in distress. They have served the country long enough. When they request for a leave, please have some compassion. Just because they are taking care of their family doesn’t mean that they do not want to play.
