A lot of reports suggests that senior players would be rested for the Nidhas Trophy to be played in Sri Lanka. If this is to be true then India would be sending a strong side to Sri Lanka with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma very likely to being rested. Now if Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are rested and miss out on the Nidhas trophy then the question that crops up is, who would lead the side.
Here are the probable contenders:
1. Suresh Raina

With Rohit and Kohli not there the possibility of him leading the side is maximum. Suresh Raina is amply experienced and holds a decent captaincy experience. So, he might just be the premier choice to lead the side.

2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Next choice can be Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He’s been in a dream run of farm in recent times and has been amply successful. He might get the responsibility of India ignores Raina.

3. Shikhar Dhawan

He’s been in a destructive form on the South African tour. He’s also led Delhi in domestic leagues and he too would be a contender for captaincy. He’s been in a sensational form and that might just go in his favour.

4. Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane is the vice captain of the test team. In absence of the senior brass he too might be considered for captaincy. Ajinkya Rahane is experienced and makes a good candidate.
