World Cup 2014-15: There’s No Way Harbhajan Singh Can Make a Comeback

Out of favor Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who led Punjab in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, has said that he is still very hopeful about his chances in the World Cup 2015 and he is keen to make a comeback into the nation team before the World Cup.

“I am targeting the World Cup. It would be great to be a part of the team in Australia and New Zealand. For a player, World Cup is a big tournament and I am keeping my hopes alive,” Harbhajan told PTI in an interview.

Harbhajan said that he is happy with the he bowled in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and also with the he led Punjab to the Vijay Hazare Trophy final. Harbhajan also added that he is trying his best to play as many domestic matches he can before the World Cup, and perform well so that he can force his way back into the national team.

“Everyday I wake up, I stay positive and think that I am going to be part of the team. I am motivating myself to do well for India again. And of course I am looking forward to play all the games, make sure I perform well and get back into the Indian side.”

Although, Harbhajan is still hopeful about his chances, his entry into the national team before the World Cup is almost impossible, as India have a very rich pool of young Indian spinners and they are all pushing each other for a place in the World Cup squad.

Harbhajan played his last ODI match in July 2011 against West Indies, and since then, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been India’s main spinners. The likes of Axar Patel and Karn Sharma have impressed with their bowling and they are now pushing Jadeja and Ashwin for a place in the national team. Harbhajan, since July 2011, hasn’t made any kind of impact through his bowling in any form of cricket, and this is why, there’s no way the selectors can pick him for the World Cup squad.

It”s good to see the veteran spinner still trying his best to make a comeback. But, Harbhajan must ask himself that on what basis is his trying to get picked in the World Cup squad?

It will impossible for the selectors to ignore the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel and Karn Sharma. who are claiming for a spot, purely on the basis of merit.
