The pool game between Australia and Afghanistan turned out be a one-sided affair as Australia crushed Afghanistan by 275 runs. Mohammad Nabi won the toss and elected to bowl first. This decision backfired as Australia scored a mammoth total of 417/6 in 50 overs.

Here are the stats of the match:

1) Highest Ever Team Total In World Cups

Australia’s total of 417/6 is now the highest team total in the history of World Cup cricket. This also the first time that Australia have scored 400 runs in a World Cup match. Their previous best was 377 for 6 against South Africa in 2007 World Cup.

2) Highest Partnership For Australia In ODI Cricket

The 260-run stand between David Warner and Steve Smith is now the highest partnership for Australia in ODI cricket. This record was previously held by Ricky Ponting and Shane Waston, who scored 252 runs against England in the 2009 Champions Trophy.

3) Highest individual score by an Australian in World Cups

David Warner’s blistering knock of 178 runs off 133 balls is now the highest individual by an Australian batsman in the history of World Cup cricket. The previous best was  Matthew Hayden’s 158 runs from 143 balls against West Indies in 2007 World Cup.

4) Biggest margin of victory in World Cups

Australia’s thumping victory over Aghanistan by 275 runs is now the biggest margin of victory in the history of World Cup cricket. This is also Australia’s biggest victory (in terms of runs) in ODI cricket.

5) Joint-third fastest fifty scored in World Cups

Australia’s swashbuckling batsman Glenn Maxwell played one of the most entertaining innings of the World Cup 2015 and reached his fifty in just 21 deliveries. Maxwell, who came in to bat at No. 4, started playing his unorthodox shots right from the word go and made the Afghanistan bowling attack look very ordinary. Maxwell’s 21-ball fifty is joint third fastest fifty with former South African wicketkeeper Mark Boucher and current New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum.
