Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is confident about defending the World Cup title in 2015. In a press released issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Dhoni said Team India followed their glorious World Cup campaign by winning the ICC Champions Trophy in the United Kingdom, and this shows the caliber of the team.

World Cup is the biggest honor in cricket and defending the World Cup title in Australia and New Zealand is a very special opportunity, said Dhoni. Dhoni, who has been picked as the captain of ICC ODI Team of the Year for the fifth consecutive team, is very confident of defending the title and believes that the preparations for the World Cup 2015 are on the right track. Dhoni added that his side is capable of adapting and performing in any condition.

The upcoming tour of Australia will be the ideal preparation for the young side, as they will get more chances to get used to the conditions before the all-important World Cup. There are many youngsters in the side who haven’t played much cricket in the fast and bouncy conditions in Australia, and the tour of Australia will be an ideal opportunity for them to get used to the conditions before the big-battle. It will be a big test for the youngsters in the team, but this experience will surely help them in preparing for the World Cup.

“The tour to Australia in the lead up to the World Cup will be a good opportunity to hone our skills and, like all the sides participating in the tournament, be fully prepared for cricket’s ultimate prize,” Dhoni was quoted as saying in an ICC release.

MS Dhoni is not playing in the ongoing five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Dhoni has been rested considering the amount of cricket he has been playing tirelessly across all formats.
