Australia’s swashbuckling batsman David Warner has said India will struggle in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Warner said Indian batsmen will struggle in the fast and bouncy nature of the pitches in Australia.
In the recently concluded Test series between Australia and India, the pitches rolled out for the were less lively and more long-lasting than expected. But, the pitches that the ICC will oversee for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 are guaranteed to offer more pace and bounce.
Warner also said that the boundaries in India are shorter in comparison to those in Australia and it will not easy to clear the square boundaries for the batsmen who are used to playing grounds with shorter boundaries.
“I definitely think it’s the venues (that provide an advantage) because you look at the Gabba, the MCG and probably Sydney as well, the grounds’ square (boundaries) are big,” Warner quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.
So we can use our bounce and pace. When you’re playing in a country like India, the boundaries are quite small, and as a batter I’m loving it there because you can go through with your shots and your top edges will go to the boundary. But here if you try to use the square boundaries to your advantage, you’re going to get catches in the outfield. I don’t think there’s going to be easy sixes,” Warner added.
Warner also spoke about the slow and flat nature of the pitches in Australia and how Indian batsmen will struggle to make the adjustment from flat and slow wickets to fast and bouncy pitches in Australia.
While Warner was very sure about his team reaching the final, he picked South Africa and England as the two other favourites to reach the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
“I really hope it’s either South Africa vs England. I think that would be a great tussle. The wickets (in Australia) suit all three countries and it would be a very good battle,” Warner said.
