Defending champions, India bowled out their opposition for the sixth consecutive time against Zimbabwe in their last pool game of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 at Eden Park in Auckland. India became the second team after South Africa to take all 10 wickets in six consecutive matches at the ICC Cricket World Cup .
Indian bowlers, especially the fast bowlers, have bowled brilliantly and made full use of the bowling-friendly conditions in Australia and New Zealand. India’s fast-bowling trio Mohammad Shami (15), Umesh Yadav (10) and Mohit Sharma (10) have taken 35 wickets in the ICC Cricket 2015 so far. These three have bowled with great consistency and this has allowed the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to exert pressure in the middle overs. Ravichandran Ashwin, who made a few changes to his action after the tri-series between India, Australia and England, have taken 12 wickets in the tournament. Although, Ravindra Jadeja hasn’t been in the best of form, he has still managed to take 7 wickets.
Former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly has said bowlers are the biggest reason for India’s World Cup 2015 success.
“The fast bowlers have looked good, they’ve bowled in good areas. Umesh Yadav has bowled with a lot of pace and gotten better because he was repeatedly played in Test matches and ODIs. It has not been a stop-start career for him since he made it back to the team. Consistency and constant cricket has helped Umesh get his line and length and hence the confidence back,” Ganguly wrote in his column on Cricbuzz.com.
Ganguly also praised Ravichandran Ashwin for the way he has adjusted to the bowling condition in Australia and New Zealand.
“The big difference in R Ashwin, and I hope he transforms this improvement in Tests and Twenty20s, is the speed at which he has bowled. He’s bowled a lot slower.”
