World Cup 2015: Ravindra Jadeja is doubtful; selectors might zero in on Yuvraj as the back-up

If sources are to be believed, India;s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja may miss out on the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Jadeja, who was sent back home from the ongoing tour of Australia due to a shoulder injury, is likely to be out of action for at least 6 weeks. Rvaindra Jadeja has been attending a rehabilitation programme at SRMC in Chennai for the last few day, but still there’s a lot of work to be done on his injured shoulder and it’s still not clear how long will it take for Jadeja to recover completely. The Cricket Lounge understands that the board might organise a few fitness tests for Ravindra Jadeja soon, in order to check where he stands at the moment.

The Indian selectors will be in a tricky position when they meet on Tuesday to pick the final squad for the triangular-series in Australia and also for the all important ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. While Jadeja’s absence from the squad will surely open the gates for Axar Patel, the selectors might spring in a surprise by including in-form Yuvraj Singh in the side. Yuvraj has scored three successive hundreds in the Ranji Trophy 2014-15 and he has suddenly comeback in the scheme of things.

“If Jadeja is not completely fit, then Yuvraj could come in handy for India. With both possessing an attacking style of game, selectors might zero in on Yuvraj as the back-up,” a BCCI source admitted.

Yuvraj Singh has a brilliant record in World Cup cricket and the selectors will be tempted to pick him after his good run in the Ranji Trophy. Yuvraj is an experienced player and his presence will boost India’s middle-order. Yuvraj is a big match player and he usually brings out his best on the big stages. He was India’s star performer in 2007 T20 World Cup and he was man of the series of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
