Stuart Binny, the India’s all-rounder, is likely to play in the next pool game of the ICC Cricket Word Cup 2015 against Ireland. Some media reports are suggesting that Stuart Binny had a long net session ahead of the game. Binny, who hasn’t played a game yet in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, bowled a long spell and had a decent hit with the bat as well.
So far, India have gone with a very stable playing XI in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, making only one change during the game against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) when Bhuvneshwar Kumar replaced Mohammed Shami, who was recovering from an injury.
If Stuart Binny is picked in the playing XI, it will mainly be because of the swing-friendly condition in Hamilton. Binny’s style of bowling is very suitable for the conditions in New Zealand, where the sky is grey and the surface is mostly green.
Now, if Binny is picked in the playing XI, it will be at the cost of Ravindra Jadeja. Considering the overcast conditions on the eve of game and a green top, it would make greater sense to have Stuart Binny as his style of bowling will add more variety to India’s bowling attack. India have played two spinners in all their matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 so far, but Jadeja, being the all-rounder, may make way for Binny to bat at No. 7 and fill in as the fifth bowler.
Although, media reports are suggesting that Binny is likely to play against Ireland, MS Dhoni’s comments during the last post-match press conference are anything to go by, India are unlikely to make changes.
When asked about trying out new combinations against Ireland and Zimbabwe, this what MS Dhoni had to say:
“The bench strength will warm the bench!”
Will Dhoni stick with Jadeja or he will give Binny a chance on a green top? It will be interesting to see what will be India’s combination in the match against Ireland.
