Malika Advani Becomes Women Premier League’s First Auctioneer: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to have a female auctioneer for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction, which will take place on February 13, Monday. For that, the board has roped in the services of Malika Advani who will conduct the auction for the inaugural season of the WPL.

Cricbuzz has reported that the BCCI has informed all the 5 WPL franchises about the appointment of Malika Advani as the auctioneer for the first auction of WPL in the WPL 2023 Player Auction Rules which has been communicated to all the 5 franchises.

Hugh Edmeades, Richard Madley, and Charu Sharma have conducted the men’s IPL auctions over the past 15 years. But now the decision of having a female auctioneer for the WPL Player Auction has been met with applause and praise.

Who is Malika Advani, the female auctioneer for WPL 2023 Auction?

The WPL 2023 auctioneer, Malika Advani is a Mumbai-based art collector consultant for Modern and Contemporary Indian art and partner in Art India Consultants firm.

Mallika Advani is the former head of Christie’s in India and is now an independent art dealer.

What is date and time of WPL auction?

The inaugural WPL auction will take place on February 13 in Mumbai, and it will start at 2.30 PM IST.

How much is the budget of WPL auction for each team?

Each franchise will have to spend a minimum of INR 9 crore in the WPL auction, and the value of the full purse is INR 12 crore.

How many players each WPL franchise can buy?

Each WPL franchise should have at least 15 players in their squad, with a maximum limit of 6 overseas players.

“The franchisees are reminded of the WPL squad rules with respect to minimum (15) and maximum (18) squad size, minimum squad spend (INR 9 crore) and the maximum number of overseas players in the squad (6),” the communication from the BCCI said, as seen by Cricbuzz.

A total of 409 players will go under the hammer with 246 of them being Indians and 163 overseas players, of which eight players are from the associate nations.

What is the base price of players in WPL auction?

For the inaugural WPL auction, players will be placed in 5 different base price categories: INR 50 lakh, INR 40 lakh, INR 30 lakh, INR 20 lakh and INR 10 lakh.

Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma, Ellyse Perry, Sophie Ecclestone, Sophie Devine and Deandra Dottin are among the players with the highest base price
