Senior India cricketer Ainjkya Rahane had a role to play in the field during Australia’s first innings in the WTC Final at The Oval by taking the catch of Australian skipper Pat Cummins, off the bowling Mohammed Siraj as the last Aussie wicket to fall.

With this catch, Ajinkya Rahane became the 7th Indian player to take 100 catches in Test cricket and joined the list alongside Virat Kohli

It was the simplest of catches for Rahane at cover position. Cummins mistimed his slog on the off side off a slower ball from Siraj that ballooned up in the air and went straight to Rahane, standing at cover.

With this take, Ajinkya enters the list that is headed by Rahul Dravid (209), followed by VVS Laxman (135), Sachin Tendulkar (115), Virat Kohli (109*), Sunil Gavaskar (108) and Mohammad Azharuddin (108), of players to have taken 100 or more catches in Test cricket.

Rahane has been one of the best catches of all time and one of the safest hands in the slips especially.

Meanwhile, Australia have continued their domination in the World Test Championship Final 2023.

In the morning session, Steve Smith brought up his century and Travis Head his 150. Even as India restricted Australia to less than 500, bowling them out for 469, the Indian top order faltered.

Captain Rohit Sharma made 15, Shubman Gill scored 13, while Pujara and Kohli scored 14 runs each. Ravindra Jadeja counter-attacked with 48 runs off 51 balls before getting out to Nathan Lyon. At stumps on Day 2, Ajinkya Rahane is unbeaten on 29, joined by KS Bharat, on 5*, and India trail by 318 runs.
