Yashwant Deshmukh Slammed BCCI For Donating ‘51 Crore’ Rupees To PM Cares Fund

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which is considered as the richest cricket board around the world, recently announced to donate Rs. 51 crores to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund. The PM CARES-Fund has been set up by PM Narendra Modi in order to battle the dangerous Coronavirus, which has affected the whole world.
The news about the donation was shared by the President of BCCI, Mr. Sourav Ganguly, Secretary of BCCI, Mr. Jay Shah, and Office Bearers of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) via their official twitter accounts. In a statement released by BCCI, they wrote:
The outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-1) is first and foremost a public health emergency and the BCCI has a firm resolve that the nation gets all possible help to cope with the testing times. The BCCI will contribute to Hon’ble Prime Minister’s initiative which is a dedicated national fund (PM-CARES Fund) with the primary objective of dealing with emergency or distress situations.
The Board along with its state associations will continue to monitor and work closely with the Government of India, state governments and other state regulatory bodies and are committed to providing support to the state machinery in the face of adversity,”

Soon, social media was flooded with reactions from fans. While there were many who lauded the institution for their contribution, there were many who slammed the BCCI for contributing only 51 crores.
Yashwant Deshmukh, a popular journalist and evaluation expert took to his twitter and slammed BCCI for only donating Rs 51 crores. In his tweets, Yashwant wrote how BCCI earns 54 crores from broadcasting rights of one single IPL match. Further, he wrote that if IPL happens it should be played in an empty stadium and the broadcast income should go for the treatment of Coronavirus.
“The @BCCI donated a “royal” figure of 51 Crores to fight Corona. Never mind they earn 54 Crores from broadcasting rights of ONE SINGLE IPL match.
Here is the deal: Why not let IPL played in empty stadium and let this year’s entire Broadcast income go for #fightagainstcorona?

However, after getting trolled for his Tweet, Yashwant wrote how it was said in sarcasm as BCCI doesn’t even need to host IPL this year as they have already earned more than 5k crores last year. He wrote:
“Replies to this tweet will let you know difficult it is for morons to understand sarcasm. The @bcci doesn’t even need to host IPL this year. They earned more than 5000 crores last year just from Broadcasting rights. And they donated just about 1% of that income.
