Virat Kohli is arguably the fittest cricketer in world cricket. Initially, when he made debut for Indian cricket team, he was a bit on the fatter side. But, as his career progressed, Kohli started giving importance to his body and fitness and now many believe that there are very few players in world cricket, who can match his fitness level.
Kohli plays non-stop cricket for India across all three formats of the game and still manages to stay fit. In hot and humid playing conditions in India, many players suffer cramps and struggle to last long, but Kohli, over the years, has shown great level of his fitness.
There are many reasons behind Kohli’s high level of fitness. The Indian captain maintains a very strict diet. Time and again, Kohli has spoken about the importance of taking the right nutritious in a sportsman life. Virat also follows his gym routine regularly and religiously and works extremely hard on his legs. And, last but not the least, Kohli is a great athlete and has a very systematic running routine.
As per a report published on Circle of Bollywood, Virat Kohli is one of the fastest sprinters in the world. If we consider the first 20 metres, world’s fastest man Usain Bolt takes 2.8 seconds to cover 20 meters. The Indian captain is not too far behind Bolt and he takes 3.1 seconds.
0.3 seconds is a big gap if we talk about professional sprinters but for a cricketer this is something to be proud of. Running between the wickets is a very important part of the game but we don’t get to see too many fast sprinters.
When Virat Kohli signed the multi-crore deal with Puma, Usain Bolt, who is the face of Puma worldwide, had tweeted:
“Great choice @imVkohli Time to go to the next level #ForeverFaster”
To which, Virat Kohli replied:
“I wish I could get as fast as you someday @usainbolt. Thanks, legend. @PUMA #ForeverFaster”.

The same report on Circle of Bollywood quoted well known sports scientist saying that Kohli is very lean and he practices sprint mechanics. He also said that if one puts Kohli on a 20 metre sprint track, he would probably run quicker than that.
“This transition has come on from the fact that he is now far more athletic. He is far leaner, and he is practicing on his sprint mechanics. And actually, to be honest, if you put him on a 20 metre sprint track, he would probably run quicker than that. It is just that the nature and the mechanics of the game of cricket that he is never ever achieving the top speed.”
