A Journalist Points Out Why Yuvraj Singh’s Return Can Spark A Controversy

After Yuvraj Singh decided to come out of retirement, the nation got polarized into two factions where one was overwhelmed with joy to see their favorite cricketer back to the cricketing circuit while the other questioned the surroundings and how exactly was BCCI going to incorporate this move.

Another major controversy that has gained significant traction is that if Yuvi can be allowed to play in domestic cricket, then why BCCI would force a moratorium on other Indian cricketers who have expressed their interest to play cricket in foreign T-20 leagues.

Going by the latest regulations imposed by BCCI, one has to let go of the Indian Premier League if he is opting to play for any other foreign franchise tournament.

Highlighting this weird norm in place, a journalist tweeted, “Yuvraj Singh retired. Went and featured in Canadian T20 League, T10 in UAE, and also the Legends match and now wants to play domestic cricket. If BCCI allows him to play, what will they tell Tambe, Irfan Pathan who wanted to play in other T20 Leagues, but were to let go IPL?”

Praveen Tambe was disqualified from this year’s IPL after the veteran cricketer chose to play for Trinbago Knightirder in CPL 2020. In fact, Yuvraj Singh recently hogged the limelight with a phenomenal catch where he showed his age to be nothing but a number.

We are all aware of cricketers who would most likely not feature in the Indian Premier League again and foreign franchises are raring to field them for their glittering sides. Unfortunately with this moratorium in place, a player has to think twice before making such a call that may see him creating bad blood between himself and the Indian cricket board.

Though we are all excited to see how Yuvraj would fare for Punjab, given his age, many of his hardline fans have expressed doubts about him taking the field again, underlining the difference between taking the nets and coming out in the middle of a real game.
