Rohit Sharma

Indian captain Rohit Sharma achieved a new milestone on Tuesday as he became the second-fastest batter ever to complete 10,000 runs in an ODI, leaving behind legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Sourav Ganguly, Brian Lara, Chris Gayle, MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid. Rohit achieved this feat during his knock in the Super 4 Asia Cup 2023 match against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Rohit, playing his 241st ODI innings, reached the landmark with a stellar six, which made him the highest six-hitter in Asia Cup history surpassing Shahid Afridi in the process.

Rohit Sharma is currently in a stellar form in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, having smashed three consecutive fifties. With his contributions with the bat, the Indian cricket team has already cemented its spot in the Final clash. Indian team will face Bangladesh before the final clash to complete their Super 4 stage.

Yuvraj Singh’s old tweet on Rohit Sharma goes viral

Meanwhile, as Rohit Sharma became the second-fastest batter to complete the 10,000-run milestone, an old tweet of Yuvraj Singh from 2010 on Rohit Sharma went viral. The current Indian captain was a young prodigy in 2010 who was still struggling to find a spot for himself in the squad.

On June 23, 2010, Rohit took to his Twitter account (now X) and informed his fans that he had finished the final practice session ahead of the Asia Cup 2010 final against Sri Lanka the next day. He also asked the fans to wish him luck. He wrote:

“just came back frm practice..big day for us tomorrow wish me n our team great luck !!!”

Yuvraj Singh, who has shared a cordial friendship with Rohit since their days playing together for the Indian team, took a cheeky dig at the Indian captain. He wrote:

“@ImRo45 good luck run faster fatty”

Recently, Rohit Sharma opened up about how Yuvraj Singh helped him get back from his lowest point of his career after he was snubbed out of India’s ODI World Cup 2011 squad. During the ODI World Cup 2011, the selectors decided to go ahead with Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli instead of Rohit.

In a light-hearted conversation with PTI, Rohit recently revealed that the 2011 squad selection result didn’t go well for him as he was kept out of the World Cup-winning team. He revealed:

“I was sad and sitting in my room and didn’t know what to do next. I remember Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) calling me to his room and taking me out for dinner,”

He added: “He (Yuvraj) explained to me how it feels when you are left out. He told me, ‘the best thing is that you have so many years in front of you. As we play in the World Cup, you take this chance to work hard on your game, skills and make a comeback. There is no way that you won’t play for India or not get a chance to play in the World Cup’,”
