w era of the Indian cricket team under head coach Rahul Dravid and with T20I skipper Rohit Sharma started with a blockbuster win against New Zealand in the first T20I of the ongoing 3-match series in Jaipur. The Indian side gave a solid team performance in all the departments of the game and defeated New Zealand by 5 wickets.
In his first match as a full-time T20I captain, Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first. Team India started the game with a stunning note with Bhuvneshwar Kumar getting rid of Daryl Mitchell’s middle-stump in the first over itself. However, following his dismissal, Martin Guptill and Mark Chapman formed a brilliant partnership to help the Kiwis recover and post a competitive total on the scoreboard.
Later, while chasing a target of 164 runs, both the Indian openers – KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma carried on from where they left off in the UAE and got their team off to a flier yet again. However, KL Rahuls soon got out cheaply but that didn’t stop the skipper from scoring freely. Suryakumar Yadav, who came into bat at number 3, gave a stunning performance. He started to attack the Kiwi bowlers right from the word go. Both the Mumbaikars scored at a brisk rate and put their team in the driving seat.

But just when it looked like team India would run away with the game, Rohit was dismissed after scoring a blistering fifty. Suryakumar too followed him to the pavilion.
The responsibility of taking their team to the winning side was now on the shoulders of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. But Iyer failed to live up to the expectations of the game as he threw away his wicket in the process.
After his dismissal, Venkatesh Iyer started with a boundary in his international career when India need 9 from 6 balls, but he got out on the next ball while trying to be cheeky. However, Rishabh Pant held his nerves in the end and got his team 1-0 up in the three-match T20I series
Meanwhile, social media was soon flooded with reactions from the overjoyed Indian fans. Here, check out the reactions of Twitterati on this:
