After the Test series and the ODI series, England and South Africa competed with each other in the T20I series which began last night. The two teams had collided against each other in a thrilling match at the 2016 T20 World Cup in India and they produced yet another masterclass in last night’s match. Lungi Ngidi emerged as the biggest match-winner for the home side as he successfully defended 7 runs in the final over to win the game for the Proteas.
Talking about the match first, Quinton de Kock and co. batted first. The captain got the team off to a good start along with Temba Bavuma. Rassie van der Dussen and JJ Smits also contributed their bit to the scoreboard as South Africa posted a score of 177 runs on the board. Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers for England with figures of 2/28 in his 3 overs.
Jason Roy provided a solid start to England as he played a whirlwind knock of 70 runs off just 38 deliveries. He got fine support from his skipper Eoin Morgan who hit a fifty. It seemed like the visitors would easily win the match however, Lungi Ngidi’s miraculous final over denied England the win. He had first sent Ben Stokes to the pavilion in the 18th over and in the final over of the match, he dismissed Tom Curran and Moeen Ali to turn the game in South Africa’s favour. Dale Steyn’s good fielding help the rainbow nation run out Adil Rashid on the final ball of the game and win the match by 1 run.
The match provided complete entertainment to the fans as it featured some big shots, classy boundaries, fierce pace bowling and also last minute drama. Here’s how the Twitterverse reacted to this epic T20 match between South Africa and England.
