If killing two birds with one arrow is a thing, the New Zealand cricket team just did that as they successfully managed to knock Afghanistan and India out of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. On Sunday, Kane Williamson-led New Zealand cricket team defeated Afghanistan by eight wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
New Zealand’s victory also meant that the Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team won’t be able to qualify for the semi-final round of the T20 World Cup 2021.
As the game kickstarted, Afghanistan elected to bat first and it won’t be wrong to say that their decision backfired badly on them. Afghanistan team kickstarted their innings at the worst possible note as they lost three wickets in the powerplay. Najibullah Zadran and Mohammad Nabi tried to bring back the momentum as they put on 59 for the fifth wicket off 48 balls.
Najibullah Zadran played a brilliant knock as he slammed a brilliant 73 off 48 balls, but Afghanistan’s other batsmen failed couldn’t contribute much.
Trent Boult (3-17) and Tim Southee (2-14) starred with the ball as New Zealand as they successfully restricted the opposition to a total of 124 runs.
Later, the Kiwis got off to a steady start in their run-chase as they made45 runs in their powerplay. The batsmen kept looking for singles and ignored the bad balls, which didn’t allow the required rate to go up. Kane Williamson and Devon Conway joined hands and didn’t allow the Afghans to take their side home.
As soon as New Zealand clinched victory over Afghanistan, social media was already flooded with hilarious memes and reactions from the desi fans.
