You would be shocked to know that there are 15 players who were part of the IPL 2008 season and will also be part of the IPL 2024 season next year.
The IPL 2024 season will be the 17th edition of the IPL, a tournament that kick-started back in 2008. The fact that these players are still part of the IPL speaks volumes about their determination, longevity, and their quality in the format.
The three biggest names, of course, are MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma. It’s interesting that it is MS Dhoni who is still the captain of CSK while Kohli and Rohit will not lead their sides next year. Dhoni’s commitment to CSK and his fitness is exemplary and he will feature in the IPL 2024 even while nearing the age of 43.
Apart from these big three players, other veteran players who have endured the demands of T20 cricket and adapted themselves to it over the past 16 years are Piyush Chawla, who will lead MI’s spin-bowling next season once again, Ishant Sharma, the workhorse pacer, Dinesh Karthik, who is RCB’s designated finisher, Ajinkya Rahane, who has reinvented himself at CSK, and Manish Pandey, who continues to put solid domestic performances and gain IPL contracts.
Not to forget the two veteran spinners, R Ashwin and Amit Mishra, both of whom still have that magic that has only gotten honed with time.
Here is the complete list of players – no surprise that all are Indians – who were part of IPL 2008 and will also be part of IPL 2024.
