England’s debutant Rehan Ahmed scripted history in Test cricket on Monday when he took a five-wicket haul in Pakistan’s second innings in the ongoing Test in Karachi.

18-year-old leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed became the youngest bowler to claim a five-for on Test debut!

To be precise Rehan Ahmed is 18 years and 218 days old when he became the youngest debutant in the history of men’s Test cricket to claim a five-wicket haul, going past current Australian Test captain Pat Cummins, who had achieved this feat when he was 18 years and 196 days old on his debut against South Africa back in 2011 in Johannesburg.

In fact, his five-fer was completed only on Pakistan’s last wicket, the dismissal of batter Agha Salman.

Rehan Ahmed’s historic feat helped England bowl the hosts out for 216 in their second innings, setting a target of 167 for England. Ben Stokes’ side are already 112/2 in the 17 overs they batted in the last session of Day 3 and need only 55 more runs to complete the 3-0 whitewash over Pakistan, in Pakistan.

For his record, Ahmed scalped Pakistan captain Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim Jr, and Agha Salman.

“From not bowling in the first session to five wickets is a dream come true,” he said. “I was enjoying it anyway, I was loving it out there, but it was nice to get the ball after three hours.”

In the first innings, Pakistan scored 304 runs, Babar Azam top-scoring with 78. Jack Leach took 4 wickets while Ahmed took a brace. England replied with 354 runs of their won, taking a small but crucial lead of 50 runs. Young Harry Brook continued on his superb form to register another Test century. Abrar Ahmed and Nauman Ali took 4 wickets each.

Babar Azam again top-scored for Pakistan in the second innings with 54, but his side could only manage 216. England now stand only 55 runs away from creating history.
