2 Players MI Should Release Even If They Win IPL 2023

Mumbai Indians are just a step away from the Indian Premier League 2023 finals and two wins away from clinching their 6th IPL title. Rohit Sharma’s team has already, many would concur, overachieved this season than what had been expected of them at the start of the tournament.

Mumbai Indians have finished last in IPL 2022 and there bowling was even more dented this season with the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and also Jhye Richardson. Jofra Archer wasn’t fit and had a horrible debut season while Mumbai Indians found a terrific pacer in Akash Madhwal.

Mumbai Indians have had impressed success this season. They could even go on and win the trophy altogether against great odds. However, there are couple of players Mumbai Indians should release even if they go all the way.

Here are 2 players MI must release even if they win IPL 2023:

Chris Jordan

Chris Jordan

Jordan has one of the most glittering T20 International careers with England: he’s won a T20 World Cup, reached a final of one and a semi-final of another.

However, Jordan, like plenty of other England bowlers, has not been able to crack the IPL code. The lengths and variations he uses in other parts of the world have not worked in the Indian conditions in the IPL.

In 33 IPL matches for 5 different franchises, Jordan has 30 wickets to his name and has leaked at an economy of 9.45. In the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023, after coming in as replacement of Archer, in 5 outings, Jordan has snapped only 3 wickets and has an economy of over 10 runs per over.

Sandeep Warrier

Sandeep Warrier

Warrier was brought in as the replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian Premier League 2023. However, the Kerala-born medium pacer hasn’t got an opportunity this season yet for Mumbai Indians, and is unlikely to get further.

Warrier could be axed from the Mumbai Indians squad ahead of next auction. His records aren’t that appealing. All of his 5 IPL matches came for KKR from 2019 to 2021, in which he picked only 2 wickets.

The 32-year-old hasn’t really taken domestic cricket by storm either; he had gone unsold in the Indian Premier League 2023 auction, so that’s an indication of his T20 game.
