"2023 Was The Best Year For Virat Kohli In His Career," Says Former India Pacer

In the opinion of former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad, 2023 was the best year in the career of Virat Kohli. Prasad asserted that after a couple of struggle-filled years from 2020 to mid-2022, to see Kohli bounce back in such fashion was “refreshing” to watch.

Virat Kohli finished 2023 as the second-leading run-scorer of the year. He scored 2048 runs across formats at an average of 66, slamming 8 centuries and 10 fifties. His 8 international hundreds is the highest this year by any batsman.

Only Shubman Gill scored more international runs than Kohli in 2023 – however, Gill scored 106 more runs than Kohli while playing 16 more innings, and this further highlights the epic time he had with the bat this year whenever he took the field.

Virat Kohli had a record-breaking World Cup 2023, where he broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 673 runs from the 2003 World Cup and became the first batsman to amass over 700 runs in an ICC ODI World Cup. In the semi-final against New Zealand, Kohli also became the first batsman ever to notch up his 50th ODI century.

Virat Kohli is the best batsman of this generation: Venkatesh Prasad

In a Q&A session on Twitter, Venkatesh Prasad hailed Kohli as the best batsman of this generation. Kohli’s comeback after unprecedented career lows, Prasad reckons, reflected on his mindset of a champion player.

Replying to a fan’s question on Twitter, Prasad tweeted: “He (Kohli) has proved again that he is a champion and the best batsman of this generation, been a phenomenal year for him. Would rate this as his best year, especially since it had come after a couple of difficult years for him. That hunger and zeal was refreshing and sign of a true champion that Virat is.”
