3 Big Blunders Made By RCB In IPL 2024 Auction

It can be argued strongly that the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had the worst of the IPL 2024 auction of all the 10 teams.

77 players were sold in the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai, and six of them went to RCB. However, their fans are not pleased or satisfied with any one of the six purchases. Not only RCB couldn’t get any high-profile player in this auction, their bowling looks even weaker compared to last season, where they failed to reach the playoffs.

3 big mistakes by RCB in IPL 2024 auction:

Overspending on Alzarri Joseph while allowing MI to get Coetzee and Madushanka

RCB fans can’t grapple the fact that RCB bought Alzarri Joseph for INR 11.5 crore while Mumbai Indians bought both Gerald Coetzee and Dilshan Madushanka for a combined price of less than 10 crore. Coetzee and Madushanka were the best bowlers of their teams in the World Cup, while Joseph has barely made big contributions in recent years, which even saw him getting dropped from Gujarat Titans’ XI.

Tom Curran is now their death specialist

While Siraj in the powerplay and Joseph/Ferguson in the death overs may do well, RCB’s nemesis of leaking runs in the death overs seems like it will continue in next season as well. If your best death bowler is Tom Curran, who doesn’t even get picked in England’s T20I squad, then you have a major headache. They perhaps should have gone harder at Harshal Patel instead of Joseph.

No replacement of Hasaranga

It was already a big surprise that RCB released Wanindu Hasaranga. They didn’t get any experienced wrist-spinner in the auction, and now their spin attack will be led by Karn Sharma and Glenn Maxwell.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) players bought in IPL 2024 auction: Alzarri Joseph (INR 11.5 crore), Yash Dayal (INR 5 crore), Lockie Ferguson (INR 2 crore), Tom Curran (INR 1.5 crore), Swapnil Singh (INR 20 lakh), Saurav Chauhan (INR 20 lakh)
