3 Most Unlucky Cricketers In India Presently

In a country where cricket isn’t just a sport but a religion, making it to the national team is a dream of millions. Indeed, the competition is cutthroat, with young talent sprouting from every nook and cranny of India. However, some players, despite their phenomenal skill and performance, find themselves at the mercy of misfortune. They have the talent, they’ve put in the work, but somehow the stars just don’t align for them. These cricketers often get overshadowed by the limelight that their luckier peers enjoy. Today, we look at the three most unlucky cricketers in India at present: Varun Chakraborty, Mayank Agarwal, and Deepak Chahar.

3 Most Unlucky Cricketers In India Presently:

1. Varun Chakraborty: The Mystery Spinner Who Can’t Catch a Break

Varun Chakraborty is a spinner who mystifies batsmen but is himself perplexed by his own bad luck. He was on everyone’s radar after his stunning performances in domestic T20 leagues. His unique bowling style even earned him a spot on the national squad. But then injuries struck, not once but multiple times. Just when he was about to don the national colours, he had to step back.

Moreover, he missed out on making his international debut multiple times due to untimely injuries. The frustration builds up for a player when he knows he’s good but can’t prove it on the biggest stage. It’s heartbreaking to see such a promising career punctuated by ill-timed injuries. He finally made his debut in the T20 World Cup 2021 but failed to make his mark. Despite his setbacks, Chakraborty remains an intriguing prospect, but one has to wonder when his luck will finally turn.

2. Mayank Agarwal: Talent Overlooked and Overshadowed

Mayank Agarwal is a classic example of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Despite scoring runs prolifically in domestic cricket and showing promise in his early international appearances, Mayank seems to always miss the bus. The problem for Mayank is the abundance of opening talent in India. With established stars like Rohit Sharma and youngsters like Shubman Gill, he finds himself in a tricky spot.

When he does get a chance, he performs, but it’s never enough to secure his spot. Additionally, selectors often overlook him for overseas tours, choosing experience over fresh talent. As talented as he is, he finds himself in a loop of uncertainty, which for a cricketer can be more stressful than facing a bouncer. Mayank Agarwal’s inconsistent inclusion reflects not his lack of talent, but an incredible amount of bad luck.

3. Deepak Chahar: Great Performer but Often Sidelined

Deepak Chahar burst onto the scene with his swing bowling and was even heralded as the next big thing in Indian cricket. Despite his early successes, including a match-winning T20 performance against Bangladesh, Chahar often finds himself on the sidelines. He has been in and out of the team due to either injuries or rotation policies.

Even when he recovers from injury, regaining his spot becomes a herculean task due to the competition. Furthermore, the emergence of other pace talents like Prasidh Krishna and T. Natarajan has made his comeback path even steeper. Chahar’s case is one where his own body and fierce competition conspire against him.

Being a cricketer in India is a double-edged sword. While the platform and opportunities are immense, so are the challenges and disappointments. Varun Chakraborty, Mayank Agarwal, and Deepak Chahar represent the untold stories of incredible talent hampered by sheer bad luck. Each has shown glimpses of brilliance but has been unable to sustain momentum due to a variety of unfortunate circumstances. As we look ahead, one can only hope that fortune starts favouring these deserving athletes. Their stories are a crucial reminder that in sports, talent alone doesn’t always cut it; sometimes luck plays an undeniable role.
