3 Teams Will Have New Captains In IPL 2024

The IPL 2024 auction is just a couple of weeks away, and all 10 franchises and their fans are excited for the mini-auction in Dubai.

The IPL 2024 tournament is expected to kick-start in the last week of March and conclude by around 24th May. The BCCI is reportedly trying to conclude the IPL 2024 by 24th May as it will give the players 8-10 days to freshen up for the T20 World Cup 2024, which will start from June 4 in the West Indies and the USA.

The IPL 2024 will be the 17th edition of the IPL, the biggest, richest, and most competitive T20 league in the world.

Since this will be a mini-auction, there haven’t been any revamps of the squads, as the franchises are only looking to tweak their squads and not make too many drastic or significant changes.

One change that is likely to happen to three franchises is that they will have a different captain leading their side in the IPL 2024 than the one who captained them in IPL 2023.

3 teams that will have different captains in IPL 2024 than IPL 2023:

3 Teams Will Have New Captains In IPL 2024

Shreyas Iyer (KKR)

Shreyas Iyer, KKR

Shreyas Iyer had to miss the IPL 2023 season due to a back injury. He made his return in the Asia Cup and then had a brilliant World Cup 2023 tournament.

Nitish Rana led KKR in the absence of Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2023. Under Nitish, KKR failed to qualify for the playoffs and finished 7th. Iyer captained KKR in IPL 2022, where also KKR finished 7th. However, Iyer is likely to take back the captaincy from Nitish Rana for IPL 2024.

Shubman Gill – Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans will have to make some major changes to their line-up as Hardik Pandya, their star all-rounder and captain, has left back for the Mumbai Indians. As soon as Pandya’s departure was soon, GT announced the appointment of Shubman Gill as their new skipper.

Pandya led them to two IPL finals, winning one and losing one by a slim margin. It would be unfair to expect such success from Shubman Gill straightaway.

Rishabh Pant – Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant, IPL 2024

The last week of December will mark one year to Rishabh Pant’s near-fatal accident last year. Pant missed all professional cricket this year, but it has been learned that he will make his return to the IPL 2024.

David Warner captained Delhi Capitals last season and DC finished 9th. If Pant returns, however, it’s still not certain that he will lead the side and do wicket-keeping.
