World cup 2023

The ODI World Cup 2023 is almost here and the fans are waiting anxiously for the cricket festival to begin in India. In 2011 when BCCI hosted the tournament at home, the Indian cricket team emerged victorious under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. And this time as well, team India will enter the tournament as the favorite to win the title. Besides India, the five-time champions Australia and the defending champions England will also enter the tournament as the favorites to win the tournament.

Meanwhile, in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, several records will be broken. Here, in this article, we bring you a list of four big records that might get broken in the World Cup 2023.

Check out the list of four big records that might get broken in the World Cup 2023:

1. Rohit Sharma breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record:

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma can break Sachin Tendulkar‘s record of hitting the most sixes in the tournament. The record for the most sixes in ODI World Cups is held by Chris Gayle, with 49 maximums in five World Cup appearances (2003-2019). When it comes to the Indian cricket team, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly are currently placed in seventh and ninth positions with 27 and 29 sixes, respectively.

Suryakumar Yadav

However, in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, Indian captain Rohit Sharma might leave both these batting stalwarts behind and become the Indian cricketer to smash the most sixes in World Cups. So far, he has played in two ODI World Cups (2015 and 2019), where he has smashed 23 maximums in 17 games.

2. Mohammed Shami to break Javagal Srinath and Zaheer Khan records:

Mohammed Shami has played an instrumental role in taking the Indian cricket team to the semi-finals in the last couple of World Cup tournaments. He became the fourth leading wicket-taker in World Cup 2015 when he picked 17 wickets off 7 games. He played his second ODI World Cup in 2019 when he picked 14 wickets in four contests at an economy of 5.48.

In the upcoming edition of the World Cup, Shami will once again look forward to giving his best for the nation. The veteran can become the leading wicket-taker for team India in the distinguished tournament, leaving Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath behind as both the former players are holding the record of highest wicket-taker for India with 44 wickets respectively. On the other hand, Shami has 31 wickets in 11 matches of ODI World Cups.

3. Mitchell Starc surpassing Glenn McGrath:

Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath is the leading wicket-taker in World Cups with 71 wickets in 39 matches. In the upcoming edition of the World Cup, Mitchell Starc is expected to surpass McGrath to become the highest wicket-taker in the World Cups.

Starc picked up 22 wickets in 8 games in World Cup 2015 and picked 27 wickets in 10 games during the 2019 World Cup. Starc needs to give a similar performance in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 as well in order to become the leading wicket-takers in the tournament.

4. Glenn Maxwell breaking Ricky Ponting’s records:

Glenn Maxwell is expected to play a big role in Australia’s campaign in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. The explosive batter will look forward to adding strength to his side.
