The Ranji Trophy is one of the best places where Indian cricketers cut their teeth and make their way up to the Indian team. A lot of players have made their name at a young age in the Ranji trophy. Here are five players to look forward to this Ranji Trophy:
Shreyas Iyer:
A name who has been knocking on the doors of the Indian team for a long time now, Shreyas Iyer will look to go even better than the fantastic run he had in the Ranji Trophy last year. He managed to smash a brilliant 1321 runs for Mumbai in the 2015-16 season.
Iyer only came behind Laxman in the Ranji tally and he knows that he has to do better than the 4 centuries that he scored last season.
Jayant Yadav:
The Haryana spinner is one of players who managed to play for India for a short while before heading back to the domestic arena. He has great all-round abilities and he proved that when he represented the country.
Though out of action now, Jayant knows that he is just a few good performances away from finding his place back in the team.
Nathu Singh:
A player who is regarded as one of the fastest bowlers in the country today. There are however a lot of doubts over his ability and that he might end up like Munaf Patel. He picked up eight wickets in the Duleep Trophy.
He also bowled well against the South Africans when they were touring and he was part of the Board President’s XI team.
Karun Nair:
While he had a good outing with the Indian team, going on to become one of the only two batsmen to hit 300 runs, Karun Nair finds himself back in the wilderness of the domestic circuit once again.
He knows that he needs to find some form this season once again if he wants to stand any chance of making it back to the Indian team once again.
Mayank Agarwal:
After seeing his career blighted by injuries, Mayank Agarwal came to the fore in the Duleep Trophy when he got 420 runs in just five innings, when he smashed a brilliant 161 runs in one of the matches.
He has already played a lot of games for India A and knows that if he tries harder he could find himself in the fringes of the Indian team.
Rishabh Pant:
One of the most exciting young batsmen in India, Rishabh Pant was the star of the previous season for Delhi. He scored runs consistently throughout the season and impressed one and all with his aggressive display of batting. Pant is still very young and needs more runs ahead of name to make a strong case for himself as India’s next wicketkeeper-batsman after MS Dhoni. He has already played for India but he will have to scoring runs at the domestic level and keep pushing selectors for a place in the national squad.
Washington Sundar
The young all-roudner from Tamil Nadu has already made a big impact with his smart display of spin bowling in the last season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has also made a good start to his domestic career and this season can be a big one for the young lad. All eyes are already on him and his every success and failure will be analysed very closely by the fans, secretors and media.
