5 Spinners Who Will Cause Huge Bidding Wars In IPL 2024 Auction

The IPL 2024 Auction will take place on December 19 in Dubai. Interestingly, this will be the first time in the auction history that an IPL auction will be held outside India.

All 10 IPL franchises last weekend, released their list of retained and released players. Even some big-names, most of them overseas, were released by the franchises as either they had a disappointing IPL 2023 season, or didn’t fit right in their combination, or were simply too expensive to hold.

Apart from big-hitters and prominent pacers, some high-quality spinners, too, will be up for grabs in the IPL 2024 auction.

5 spinners who could force bidding wars at IPL 2024 auction:

Wanindu Hasaranga

IPL 2024 auction

The release of Wanindu Hasaranga by RCB came as a big surprise to the RCB and all cricket fans. Hasaranga is one of the best T20 leg-spinners in the world. The Sri Lankan has taken 91 T20I wickets in 58 matches, and he had done well in patches for RCB in the past two seasons.

But perhaps his price of INR 10.75 crore would have felt too much for RCB. There is a chance that Hasaranga could go for even more than this in the IPL 2024 auction, given he also has hitting abilities that RCB didn’t utilize.

Shakib al Hasan

Bangladesh’s greatest cricketer Shakib Al Hasan is a proper match-winner and has won games on his own for his country and various franchise leagues he’s played around in the world. Shakib also brings leadership experience with himself. He was released by KKR who have gone for a squad revamp with a dozen released players.

KKR, though, could once again look to buy him, and so could Lucknow as pitches in Kolkata and Lucknow give great help to spinners.

Dunith Wellalage

The one way for any player to boost his strength in the IPL auction is to perform well against India. Sri Lanka’s Dunith Wellalage did exactly that in the Asia Cup when the 20-year-old picked a 5-wicket haul, which included wickets of Rohit, Kohli, and Gill, and also scored 42* runs in Colombo.

Hrithik Shokeen

Mumbai Indians surprisingly let go of spinning all-rounder Hrithik Shokeen before the IPL 2024 auction. Although Shokeen didn’t too anything greatly in the past two seasons with MI, the 23-year-old has talent and a bright potential. Being an Indian spinning all-rounder, Shokeen is very likely to be picked in the auction for a decent amount.

Akeal Hosein

West Indies’ Akeal Hosein is turning into a proper all-rounder. He made his IPL debut for SRH last season, but only featured in one game and is now released. A left-arm spinner who can bowl efficiently in the powerplay and can do late-order hitting with the bat, Hosein has played over 70 white-ball games for West Indies and is a sough-after player in the franchise circuit.
