Over the years, the T20 format has become one of the most loved formats of the game. Ever since this format was introduced, 6 World Cup tournaments have been played in this format. The popularity of this format resulted in the birth of the Indian Premier League. Just like T20, the Indian Premier League is also one of the most loved tournaments around the world.
While there have been times when IPL performances of certain players have made them stars, but there have also been times when the star performers have failed to perform in the Indian Premier League and disappointed everyone.

1.  Joginder Sharma:

Former Indian cricketer, Joginder Sharma, is known for his heroics during the 2007 T20 World Cup, which made him a household name in India. He gave a brilliant performance and helped India win the tournament. For the same reason, he was appreciated and praised by the Indians and the ICC.
Joginder Sharma became an overnight star after his memorable last over against the Pakistan cricket team in the T20 World Cup 2007. During the match, Pakistan needed 13 runs in the final over but Joginder Sharma crushed their dreams by taking Pakistan’s last wicket as Misbah.
Following his heroics in World Cup, Joginder Sharma was having high hopes to make it big in the Indian Premier League after the T20 World Cup raged in 2007 however, he failed to live up to the expectations as he could only take 12 wickets in 16 matches of the IPL at an average of 34.92 while scoring only 36 runs with the bat.
2. Darren Sammy:

Under the captaincy of Darren Sammy, West Indies cricket team won the World Cup two times — 2012 and 2016. However, unlike his international-level career, his IPL career failed to reach the heights. Darren Sammy has played for three different teams in the Indian Premier League but failed to give the best of his abilities. He took only 11 wickets from 31.82 in 22 matches played in IPL, while in batting he scored 295 runs.
3. Angelo Mathews:

During the ICC T20 World Cup in 2014, Angelo Mathews made a lot of headlines for his exceptional performances. However, his performances in the IPL always garnered him criticism. Angelo Mathews scored 724 runs in 49 IPL matches at a mediocre average of 23.35 and a strike rate of 125.91 and while bowling he took just 27 wickets at an economy rate of 8.18.
4. Carlos Brathwaite:

Carlos Brathwaite, the all-wounder of the West Indies cricket team smashed four sixes in the final of the T20 World Cup 2016 and became a champion and an overnight star. However, his performance in the IPL faded. During his IPL career including 16 matches, Carlos scored just 181 runs at a poor average of 13.92.
5. Marlon Samuels:

Marlon gained a reputation for being the player of big matches. Marlon was the highest scorer for West Indies during both the World Cup of 2012 and 2016 that they won. However, every time he got an opportunity to prove the same in the IPL, he only disappointed his fans. Samuels scored just 161 runs in 15 matches of IPL at a poor average of 12.38.
