“There are some outstanding talents coming in. Shubman again is a very exciting talent,”
He added: “I saw him bat in the nets and I was like wow I was not even ten per cent of that when I was 19. That’s the confidence that they carry and it is great for Indian cricket if the standard keeps going up and the guys coming in can make impact performances straight away and we would be more than happy to give them the chances and help then grow.”

Their friendship was on full display during day 3 of the 4th Test match between India and Australia. A video featuring Kohli and Gill went viral on the internet where both cricketers can be seen having fun on the field. They can be seen having a chat before Kohli hilariously tried to twist Gill’s arm.

When Gill Expressed His Admiration For His Idol Kohli:
Time and again, Gill has expressed his love and admiration for King Kohli. He has never shied away from calling Kohli his idol. Starting from the starting, in 2016, during the BCCI’s awards night, Gill managed to click a picture with Kohli. Later, he shared the same picture on his Instagram by writing ‘With my idol’.

In 2021, Gill was asked about the same meeting in an interview with ICC, to which Gill had replied: “It’s so inspiring to be with someone like Virat Kohli and he’s been my idol since when I started playing cricket. Obviously, when you are a kid you don’t know much about it (cricket), you just want to play it for the fun of it but as you start playing you learn more about the challenges and a lot more about the game [itself]. And he’s someone I have always looked up to. This was the first time I met him in Mumbai, so it was a pretty big moment for me.”
Last week, after he collected the Player of the Match award, Gill reiterated the same “idol” remark as he paid his heartfelt tribute to King Kohli. He said:
“When I was 12-13 years old I followed Virat Kohli bhai the most, he has been my idol since I started understanding cricket. I learned a lot from Virat bhai. His batting & passion & commitment motivates me,”

Earlier this year, in January, Shubman Gill shared a picture of himself on Instagram, where Kohli left a comment under it, asking him about his watch. The youngster quickly replied that it was courtesy of the King (Kohli).

After RCB’s disappointing exit from the IPL 2023, Virat Kohli took to his social media and shared a heartfelt post on his Instagram. Kohli shared an emotional message for his fans, expressing his gratitude for the love and support. He wrote:
“A season which had it’s moments but unfortunately we fell short of the goal. Disappointed but we must hold our heads high. To our loyal supporters, grateful for backing us every step of the way. A big thank you to the coaches, management and my teammates. We aim to be back stronger. @royalchallengersbangalore 💪”
