6 Players CSK Should Have Never Released

Chennai Super Kings is one of the most successful IPL teams, having won the trophy three times. The team is generally known for making great use of their resources, however, this time, the management of the franchise came under the scanner after CSK endured their worst ever season.

While the team doesn’t generally let good players go, however, some of the decisions that they made regarding releasing the cricketers have not been spot on. These decisions have now come to light after their journey in the ongoing edition of the IPL came to an end on a heartbreaking note.

Here, in this article, we bring you a list of 6 players whom CSK shouldn’t have let go. Have a look:

1. Ravichandran Ashwin:

Chennai Super replaced the spin-wizard Ravichandran Ashwin with Harbhajan Singh. However, Harbhajan hasn’t turned out to be as consistent for Chennai Super Kings as R Ashwin. Till date, CSK is the second-highest wicket-taker of all time with 90 wickets in 97 games at an average of 24.20 and an economy of only 6.46.

2. Chris Morris:

Chris Morris has now turned out to a match-winner not just with the ball but with the bat as well. However, when he was a part of the CSK squad, he wasn’t that sufficient with the bat or the ball. And as a result of his inconsistent form and poor performances, CSK released him. However, the kind of player Morris is right now, CSK should actually have retained the cricketer.

3. Jason Holder:

Jason Holder is another all-rounder which was released by CSK because of his inconsistent performances. Holder wasn’t able to deliver with the bat. If he consistent with the bat as well like how he was with the ball, CSK would have not let him go as he would have served as a perfect alternative for Dwayne Bravo.

4. David Willey:

David Willey would have added a new dimension to the CSK. However, CSK decided not to renew his contract for this season. Not only he would have done wonders with the new ball but also could have opened the batting.

He was replaced because of his poor form and CSK decided to go for Sam Curran in his place. Though Sam Curran did wonders for CSK but having another experienced cricketer would have added more strength to the team.

5. Scott Kuggeleijn:

Last season Scott Kuggeleijn was also a part of the Chennai Super Kings squad and gave a decent performance for them in the couple of games that he played. However, he was released before the start of the new season.

At the moment, Kuggeleijn has been in some career-best form and has finished as the highest wicket-taker in the Caribbean Premier League of this year. He might have proven to be really useful for the Dhoni-led side.

6. Sam Billings:

Sam Billings was also released at the end of the last season. While playing for CSK, Sam was a little inconsistent, however, he is currently in top-notch form. Recently, he scored a century in an ODI game against Australia.
