[PAK vs AUS] Memes Galore As Babar Azam Flops At Chinnaswamy

Babar Azam is the number 1 ranked ICC ODI batsman. However, he hasn’t been putting performances worthy of this tag since last month’s Asia Cup. And it feels inevitable that Shubman Gill will soon overtake him during the World Cup 2023 tournament given the contrasting form of the two batsmen in recent weeks.

The latest in line of Babar Azam’s failures came against Australia on Friday at the batting paradise that is the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

Where David Warner and Mitchell Marsh hit sizzling centuries, and Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq scored largely comfortable half-centuries, Babar Azam failed to capitalize on his opportunity to bat at the batting-friendly surface at the Chinnaswamy and was dismissed for only 18 runs, leaving Pakistan in big trouble at 175/3 in their tall chase of 368 runs.

Babar Azam stroked three boundaries and looked set for a big score. However, he was dismissed by Adam Zampa, courtesy of a good catch from Australian skipper Pat Cummins. It was a length delivery from Zampa to which Babar rocked back for his pull – although he perhaps should have come forward – and pulled it.

The ball flew toward the right of Pat Cummins at mid-wicket, and the Aussie captain didn’t make any mistake in his catch and took a good catch to end Babar’s innings. The celebration from Zampa and Cummins told the story of how important this wicket was for them.

Babar Azam now has only 83 runs in 4 innings at this World Cup 2023. Since September, after his 151 vs Nepal, in his last 7 innings, Babar averages only 19 with a highest score of 50. This latest failure of Babar led to a spate of memes on Twitter.
