The IND vs NZ match gave plenty for the fans to talk about in just the first half of the game itself as India’s fielding was really disappointing and not up to the standards they had set themselves in the previous games.
The Indian fielders dropped as many as three catches during the IND vs NZ match on Sunday in Dharamsala. For that, the team, and its fielding coach T Dilip, got trolled heavily with funny memes on social media.
The biggest shocker of the day was when Ravindra Jadeja, who is hailed the arguably the best fielder in the world currently, dropped a simple catch of left-handed New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra. And Jadeja dropped that catch at the point position, a spot where he’s a live wire and barely makes a mistake.
Then, Daryl Mitchell got two lives. KL Rahul, the India wicket-keeper, dropped his catch off the bowling of Ravindra Jadeja. Mitchell looked to play a shot on the offside, but got an outside edge. However, Rahul couldn’t get his gloves in line properly and the ball hit his palm and deflected.
Then, Jasprit Bumrah dropped Mitchell at the long-off position. A catch that should have been taken by Bumrah, to make matters worse for him and India, was parried away to the boundary for four runs. Daryl Mitchell went on to hurt India dearly with his century that helped New Zealand’s total to over 260, even as the Indian bowlers made a comeback with regular wickets once they broke the partnership between Mitchell and Rachin that was worth 159 runs in 152 balls.
These three drops from the Indian fielders led to a spate of memes on Twitter. Fans also went after fielding coach T Dilip, about whether he will give the fielding medal today.
