Cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has come out in support of India’s star batter KL Rahul, who once again failed to make it big with the bat in the second innings of the ongoing Test match in Chattogram against Bangladesh. While it might have been a great outing for KL Rahul – the captain, however, KL Rahul – the batter has continued to struggle with the bat in the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh.

KL Rahul Is Struggling To Score Runs

On Friday, KL Rahul started well however he failed to convert his knock into a big one as Bangladesh’s pacer Khaled Ahmed got the better of him. Ahmed peppered him with a barrage of short deliveries and there were several occasions when Rahul seemed visibly uncomfortable. His stay in the middle was cut short as he smashed a bouncer from Khaled in the 23rd over however it was easily caught by Taijul Islam at fine leg. After scoring 23 runs, KL Rahul had to walk back to the pavilion, leaving his fans disappointed.

Following his dismal performance, KL Rahul, who is already under the scanner for his poor performances, was criticized heavily. In fact, there are many who are now questioning his place in the playing XI, considering the brilliant form of Shubman Gill.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, who was part of the commentary panel, has backed KL Rahul, saying that the opener doesn’t have any problem facing short deliveries and it was just a one-off incident when he got it wrong. He said:

“KL Rahul does not have a weakness against short ball. But he got out trying to attack the short ball today,”

Shubman Gill And Cheteshwar Pujara Played Terrific Knocks

Talking about Shubman Gill, after a long wait, the youngster registered his maiden century in Test format. After failing to put up a show in the first innings, Gill made a stunning comeback as he registered a meticulous century to silence the critics. He played a stunning knock of 110 runs but eventually lost his wicket to Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Besides Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara once again proved why he is hailed as the modern wall of team India. After playing a terrific knock in the first innings, Pujara registered a stunning century after a long wait of 3 years. He finished his innings on 102* from 130 balls. This was also Pujara’s fastest century in the longest format of the game.
