After promising “aggressive cricket” from the Indian team too, in the aftermath of England’s Bazball’s success, KL Rahul failed to deliver on his promise in the first Test against Bangladesh.
Not only KL Rahul, India’s stand-in captain for this Test in the absence of Rohit Sharma, scored only 22 runs a decent pitch in Chattogram, but he also scored these runs at a snail-paced rate, that perhaps had Shubman Gill, the opener playing for Sharma, also in a tangle as Bangladesh made early blows in this game.
On the eve of the Test, KL Rahul had spoken about a positive mindset and aggressive approach, as he was queried about the success of Ben Stokes’ England team in recent months since Stokes became the captain and Brendon McCullum the head coach. England have won 8 and lost 1 of their last 9 Tests under this new pair.
India, on the other hand, have lost Test matches in South Africa and England and defeated Sri Lanka at home in the past one year.
While KL Rahul charted a pretty rosy picture for the fans, the opener flattered to deceive, scoring 22 runs in 54 balls, strike rate of 40, stroking 3 fours. Shubman Gill wasn’t different either: 20 runs in 40 balls. India also lost Virat Kohli for just 1 run in the first session, before the likes of Pant, Pujara, and Shreyas Iyer bailed the side out of trouble.
Fans troll KL Rahul heavily on Twitter:

Netizens were unimpressive by KL Rahul’s knock today. After stroking 3 fours in a conservative knock, KL Rahul chopped on – a mode of dismissal that has become frequent this year – to pacer Khaled Ahmed. It was an innocuous delivery, short of length outside off stump, to which KL Rahul, wanting to steer on the off-side, managed an inside edge that made a mess of his stumps. The India captain punched the bat in anger and frustration.
Fans on Twitter trolled KL Rahul mercilessly after yet another cheap dismissal:
what a fking fraud man https://t.co/uelQkMMk5i
