Former Bowler S Sreesanth Booked By Kerala Police For Scam Of INR 18.7 Lakh

Former India fast bowler S Sreesanth, along with two others, has been booked by Kerala police for an alleged scam of INR 18.7 lakh filed by a person named Sareesh Gopalan in north Kerala’s Kannur district.

On Thursday afternoon, reports from Kerala emerged suggesting the Kannur police has been notified of a case against S Sreesanth and two others for scamming a man of INR 18.7 lakhs on the false promise of building a sports academy.

S Sreesanth and two others accused of INR 18.7 lakh scam

The complainant Sareesh Gopalan is from the Choonda in the Kannur district. He has accused Rajiv Kumar and Venkatesh Kini for duping him of INR 18.7 lakhs on multiple dates, starting April 25th, 2019. Gopalan alleged the two men has promised him and taken money to build a sports academy in Kollur, Karnataka, adding that S Sreesanth, a former India and Kerala pacer, is in partnership with them.

The name of Sreesanth being involved lured Gopalan and the two men got the trust of Gopalan. In his complaint, Sareesh Gopalan said he invested the money after being offered to become a partner in the sports academy.

S Sreesanth

Rajiv Kumar, Venkatesh Kini and Sreesanth have been charged under IPC Section 420 which deals with cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.

Talking about Sreesanth, the 40-year-old is currently playing in the Legends League Cricket tournament and played in match number 4 in Ranchi for Gujarat Giants, returning with figures of 1/33 as Giants won by only 3 runs against Bhilwara Kings. Before this, he featured in the US Masters T10 tournament in Florida.

Sreesanth had retired from international and domestic cricket in March 2022. He was part of the Indian teams that won the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 World Cup. He played 90 internationals for India, picking up 169 international wickets in his India career.

His career, though, was shortened by the ban for alledged spot fixing in IPL 2013. He returned to domestic cricket in 2021 and played a few games for Kerala.
