IPL 2024 To Allow Two Bouncers Per Over

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has introduced a significant change in its playing conditions for the upcoming 2024 season. Following a successful trial during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023-24, bowlers in the IPL will now be free to deliver two bouncers per over. This alteration marks a departure from the previous restriction of one bouncer per over, and the decision aims to enhance the balance between bat and ball in the T20 format.

IPL Has Announced Two Bouncers Per Over Rule:

The decision to allow two bouncers per over in the IPL comes after considering players’ safety as a primary concern. Although concerns about player safety had initially deterred the implementation of this rule, the suggestion had been under consideration for a considerable period and is now set to be put into action.

It has to be noted, that until now, bowlers were allowed to deliver only one bouncer per over, and any other delivery above shoulder height was considered a no-ball. However, with the new rule, bowlers can now bowl two deliveries per over that bounce above the batter’s shoulder. It’s important to note that these deliveries must still be within the batter’s reach to avoid being called a wide.

Meanwhile, the fans gave a mixed response to the new change by the Indian Premier League. Here’s how fans reacted:

Impact Player Rule Remains In Place In IPL 2024:

The Impact Player Rule, introduced in IPL 2023, will continue in IPL 2024 despite some opposition within the cricketing community. According to this rule, teams must declare a list of four substitutes at the toss, in addition to the playing XI. During the game, any one of these four substitutes can be designated as the Impact Player.

Tushar Deshpande of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made history as the first Impact Player in IPL, stepping in for Ambati Rayudu in the season opener against Gujarat Titans (GT).

The IPL 2024 is expected to take place from March 22 to the end of May, with the mini-auction scheduled for December 19 in Dubai.
