Rishabh Pant, the captain of Delhi Capitals (DC), has shared insights into his recovery and expressed his eagerness to play in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Unlike most players who are usually unavailable at the auction due to international commitments, Pant, still recovering from injuries sustained in a late 2022 car crash, has joined the franchise contingent in Dubai for the upcoming mini-auction.
In addition to Pant, Delhi Capitals’ think tank, led by head coach Ricky Ponting and director of cricket Sourav Ganguly, is anticipated to be present at the auction table. Speaking about his role ahead of the auctions, Pant said:
“Sometimes you want to explain to people the kind of player that you want. I feel if I am able to do that, I think most of the part is clear because playing does play a part but at the same time, if you can get the player you want for the team, then that would be the best thing,” Pant explained his role at the auction table.
He added: “As of now there is no expectation (from the auction), but really excited and looking forward to it, because it is something new and I have not done it. No experience about it, but really exciting times ahead,”
Delhi Capitals currently possess a purse of ₹28.95 crore, and they have nine available slots in their squad for the upcoming auction.
Rishabh Pant finally talked about his comeback
Rishabh Pant was seen at a Delhi Capitals camp in Kolkata the previous month, alongside senior franchise support staff such as Sourav Ganguly (director of cricket), Ricky Ponting (head coach), and Pravin Amre (assistant coach).
A week ago, an ESPNCricinfo report disclosed that Delhi Capitals (DC) are ready to reintroduce Pant to the team. While the report did not specify his role in the playing XI, it mentioned that the franchise is pleased to welcome him back, considering both his contributions as a batsman and as a captain. Addressing the rumors, Pant said:
“It has been really amazing, because whenever we play cricket, we feel no one loves us because there is always pressure. Actually it is a bit of hard time, but I got to know atleast people love us, they respect us and the kind of appreciation and the kind of concern I would say people have shown, I think it was heartfelt for me,”
He concluded: “It means a lot as an individual when you are going through a very rough time. If your supporters show you love, then it means a lot, and it really helps in recovery,”

Despite the ongoing recovery process, Pant remains hopeful and aims to achieve full fitness in time for the 2024 IPL season.
