AUS vs PAK: “Every Time I Go To Bed I Think About Pat Cummins” – Aamer Jamal

27-year-old Pakistan all-rounder Aamer Jamal has had quite a storied journey. From playing grade cricket in Perth and working as a taxi driver in Pakistan to taking down Nathan Lyon with the bat in Sydney and being just behind Pat Cummins in the wickets column for the series.

7 years ago, Aamer Jamal made an incredible decision to move from Pakistan to Perth after failing to make a mark in Pakistan’s domestic cricket. Not having enough money to rent out for himself, Jamal stayed with his Perth teammates for six months.

He returned to Pakistan and made his T20I debut in 2022. In the ongoing Australia vs Pakistan Test series, not only he made his Test debut but has been one of the brightest spots for Pakistan in the series.

He is, at the time of writing, the second leading wicket-taker of the series, ahead of the likes of Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, and Josh Hazlewood.

I never thought I would be second highest wicket-taker of the series: Aamer Jamal

AUS vs PAK: "Every Time I Go To Bed I Think About Pat Cummins" - Aamer Jamal

Aamer Jamal has taken 13 wickets at an impressive average of 23. Pat Cummins leads the charts with 18 wickets at 11.33. He showed his batting prowess when he smashed 82 runs in 97 balls in the first innings of the Sydney Test. Batting at number 9, Jamal walloped 9 fours and 4 sixes in his entertaining innings which helped Pakistan go from 2279/ to post a total of 313.

Jamal made a hilarious revelation that he often thinks of the competition with Pat Cummins with Cummins being the top wicket-taker of the series at this point.

Jamal was quoted as saying, “I never thought I would be second highest wicket-taker of the series so far. Every time I go to bed I think about Pat Cummins, ‘Oh he got those ten wickets in the last game. He’s just one wicket in front of me.’ So if I get two or three wickets I might go in front.”

Meanwhile, at stumps on Day 2 in Sydney, Australia are 116/2, trailing by 197 more runs.
