Watch: Mohammed Siraj Shocked Jasprit Bumrah With His English; Bumrah Gives An Epic Reaction

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj led the annihilation of South Africa in Cape Town as India became the first-ever Asian team to register a Test match win at Newlands.

Rohit Sharma’s side defeated Dean Elgar’s team by 7 wickets with the match ending in the second session on Day 2. With only 642 balls (107 overs) bowled, this was the shortest Test match in history that ended in a result.

While Mohammed Siraj took a six-wicket haul on Day 1 in South Africa’s first innings that bowled them out for only 55, Jasprit Bumrah took a six-wicket haul on Day 2 in South Africa’s second innings, bowling them out for 176 and setting India a target of 79 runs which they chased down with 7 wickets in hand.

Siraj was named as the Man of the Match in the second Test. Since Siraj is weak in English, he brought Bumrah as his translator when collecting the award. However, after the anchor asked him the first question, Siraj responded in English. When he completed his answer, Bumrah and Siraj looked at each other and burst into laughter because Siraj had brought Bumrah to translate his answer in English but he had given the answer in English himself.

The video of the reactions of both Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah has gone viral:

This was Bumrah’s 9th five-wicket haul in his 32nd Test match and his 3rd Test five-for in South Africa, which is the joint-most with Javagal Srinath for an Indian bowler. Bumrah now has 6 Test 5-wicket hauls in SENA countries, only one behind Kapil Dev.

Bumrah was named the shared Man of the Series with Dean Elgar. The speedster took 12 wickets in 3 innings at an average of only 12, helping India level the series.

Bumrah said: “This ground will always hold a special place in my heart. The journey started here, always fond memories. Very happy it went well today. That journey started in 2018 – our bowling unit was experienced and we wanted to make an impact. In India, the spinners do a lot more work. Our team is also going through a transition. Lot of bowlers have been changed, the message is the team, keep fighting. We fought it out in the last game as well.”
