IND vs ENG: A Look At India’s Test Record In Vizag

A Look At India’s Test Record In Vizag: After a shock, rare home Test match defeat at the hands of England in Hyderabad, Rohit Sharma’s Team India will look to bounce back in the second Test match, starting February 2nd in Visakhapatnam, also known as Vizag.

Ben Stokes’ team pulled out one of their biggest-ever Test match victories as England went from conceding a first innings deficiet of 190 runs to winning the Test match by 28 runs. Ollie Pope and Tom Hartley overcame their failures in the first innings to put up memorable performances in the second innings.

England skipper Ben Stokes hailed Pope’s 196 as “the greatest innings that has ever been played in the subcontinent by an English batsman” and England’s win as “definitely our greatest triumph since I’ve been captain.”

On the other hand, India head coach Rahul Dravid lamented his batters leaving out about 70 runs in the first innings as the entire top five batters got out playing attacking shots.

The second Test match will be played at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam (Vizag), where India have a flawless record, and Rohit Sharma has been outstanding with the bat.

IND vs ENG: A Look At India’s Test Record In Vizag

Only two Test matches have been played in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), and both of them were won by India by huge margins.

In 2016, India defeated England by 246 runs. The then-captain Virat Kohli was the Man of the Match as he recorded scores of 167 and 81.

In 2019, India thrashed South Africa by 203 runs with Rohit Sharma, playing Test cricket for the first time as an opener, scoring 176 and 127. That game was Rohit’s comeback match to the Test side and he made the most of his opportunity with twin centuries. Mayank Agarwal scored a double century in that match.

Rohit Sharma

In the absence of Kohli and KL Rahul, it is imperative that Rohit Sharma plays a big knock for his team in the second Test against England.

Going by these two games, it can be expected that the pitch in Vizag will be good for batting in the first two days and will get difficult as the match progresses.
