Chetan Sharma, the former India selector, shared his strong bond with star batsman Virat Kohli, expressing that he always considered him like a son and is eagerly awaiting his return to the game.
It has to be noted that Chetan resigned amid controversy over remarks in a sting operation. He clarified in his first interview since the incident that he holds a deep respect for Kohli and would never speak negatively about him. The sting operation, which captured Chetan’s comments on players, led to his removal from the BCCI.
Chetan Sharma Said Virat Kohli Is Like His Son

Speaking to News 24 in an interview, Chetan Sharma said: “Virat Kohli is like my son, and why would I say bad things about him? I always pray for his well-being. I hope he comes back and scores centuries to reach the 100-ton mark in international cricket. Virat is an icon of Indian cricket. I am waiting for his return,”
Further, Chetan Chetan Sharma expressed admiration for the current India captain, Rohit Sharma, highlighting the sacrifices he has made for the team’s overall success. Sharma commended Rohit’s leadership and contributions on the field. He said:
“Rohit Sharma is among the few players who sacrificed himself for the team. He led from the front, and once your openers score 80 runs in 10 overs, the rest of the batters can take the total to 300 runs.”
Chetan Sharma was notably impressed by Rohit Sharma’s aggressive and impactful style of cricket during the ODI World Cup last year. He appreciated Rohit’s attacking approach and the significant role he played in the tournament. He said:
“Rohit started going after the bowlers in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, but his plans didn’t succeed due to pitches and some other reasons, but he was on the top of his game in the ODI World Cup. India crushed the opponents in the event,”
During the World Cup, India didn’t lose a match until the semi-final but faced a defeat against Australia in the final on November 19.
Talking about Chetan’s controversy, he supposedly talked about private discussions with coach Rahul Dravid and then-captain Kohli. He also claimed that some players use injections to quickly return to playing, even when they are not fully fit.
